Herstory in History through 360° Technology

ARTEMIS FILM FESTIVAL

The Challenge

With a mission to explore, share and celebrate women warriors in history, Artemis Film Festival Founder Sean Newcombe intersects filmmaking, history and virtual reality for a strikingly unique educational experience. Inspired by the Ancient Greek way of transporting their play’s viewers into an entirely different time and place, Sean sought to recreate this effect for their viewers by integrating 360° technology into his historical narratives. Artemis’ need for quality filmmaking 360° technology and long-time patronage to KODAK PIXPRO naturally led Sean to his solution, the KODAK PIXPRO SP360 4K VR cameras. By utilizing the dual SP360 cameras in his scenes and excavations, the team is able to capture 360° action footage ranging from re-enacted fight sequences to live excavations of historic sites. They successfully recreate historical VR narrative sequences to create interactions that Sean describes as “immersive, empathetic and experiential,” thanks to the dual SP360 4K cameras.

The Solution

  • KODAK PIXPRO Dual SP360 4K VR Cameras
  • Camera crew and natural settings
  • VR goggles

The Results

  • Excavation footage of historical sites and stories never yet explored or shared
  • Immersive, empathetic and experiential historical narratives
  • Audiences engaged and informed of powerful women in history

“Kodak cameras had some really beautiful film capabilities in the late 60s and 70s. I love to see it re-engaging itself now with the KODAK PIXPRO 360° technology.”

– Sean Newcombe, Founder
